Lunch at Tori Grill Japanese Barbeque Restaurant

Hubby and I were in the Quirino area around lunch time today and since we have to go back there after lunch, we decided we might as well have lunch somewhere near and try out Tori Grill, a still rather new restaurant that specializes in Japanese barbeque.

We first saw and passed by this new resto when we got invited for a dinner at Carmen’s Garden Bistro and before that tried for the first time Java Jive coffee shop that is located across the street. That was late May or a few days before Tori Grill opened on June 5, 2014.

There were four tables occupied when we got there for lunch today. I wanted to sit near the counter but the smell of smoke from their grill made me decide to sit nearest the entrance.

Menu of Tori Grill Japanese Barbeque Restaurant in Davao

We asked about their menu and decided to try their Platter 1 (P145).

This platter can be for solo or shared by two people but it really depends on your appetite. I was not up to really eating a lot so we went for this one instead of Platter 2 which had more choices though and more fitting for sharing for two.

Platter 1 consists of Aspara Bacon, Uzura Bacon, Momo, Butabara, Torikawa Ninniku, Sunagimo, and Tsukune.

Their Tsukune or chicken meatball with their special tare sauce is my instant fave. Their special tare sauce got me thinking yes this is really good! They may be right when they said “…it will be one of the best you will ever taste!” Can I have more of this Tsukune, Tori Grill?

What’s tare sauce? In case you get curious about it…

Tare is a general term in Japanese cuisine for dipping sauces often used in grilling (yakitori and yakiniku) as well as with sushi, nabemono and gyoza. This sauce is best described as sweetened, thickened soy sauce for grilling. Our tare sauce is home made and it will be one of the best you will ever taste!

Next fave of mine among their barbeque during our lunch would have to be the quail egg wrapped with bacon. I love quail eggs! I can only wish I can still eat a lot of them but I could eat only as little as possible. Oh yes… quail eggs and bacon what more can I ask for!

Surprisingly their bestseller Aspara Bacon or asparagus wrapped with bacon, came in third. Maybe I’m just used to loving crispy bacon. Will give their aspara another try on our next visit. Tsukune had me at the first bite!

Hubby liked this…

We do have our own preferences. Though we both agreed the Tsukune they served us was really good.

Eating the sunagimo was a little tricky for me since I have to convince myself to try it out of curiosity. I took a little bite of it and thought it was good. But one bite was just enough for me and I let hubby finish the rest.

I hope the barbecue we would be served next time is hot fresh from the grill. But I guess for that to happen you have to be willing to wait for more time. We actually didn’t wait long for our food to be served. It was served faster than I actually anticipated.

For our rice, I ordered their Furikake Onigiri or rice balls with fish flakes.

As I try to eat less rice these days, I shared these with the hubby as well. He opted for just plain rice.

Their price is reasonable and more affordable. They have set meals to choose from too. We will hopefully be back next time with our little guy and let him try their Tsukune or chicken meat ball which I hope he will love too.
