Boyds Pizza House - Garlic Bread House, Davao City

We have been there thrice already counting the first time on a Sunday when they are closed. The photo above was taken last Saturday when we were up for a late lunch and craving for pizza. While this one below was taken during our second visit but first time to actually eat. The place is just casual not really fancy and more of homey atmosphere. They opened in Davao July 2007. So they already celebrated their first year anniversary.

But I have to say their food is delicious! More like home made pizza! Our fave and the pizza recommended by the waiter the first we went there was their Meaty Jeff Special. Fir time we ordered double size with eight (8) slices but the second time we ordered just the solo with six (6) slices coz we think it is too much for us the first time around. They have other choices for pizza like Pepperoni and Cheese, Beef & Mushroom, Johan’s Special, Vegies-Vegies, Smoked Ham & Onion, Tropical Delight, and Italian Sausage.

Then we ordered as usual their Isaac’s Pasta (since they do not serve my fave carbonara) which is penne in white sauce and roasted chicken and mushroom. But then I noticed there is no roasted chicken in it. But it is delicious! I’m not a garlic bread lover but I ate their garlic bread in a snap lol! Just kidding but it is also yummy!

Last weekend, H tried their Jed’s Juicy Burger with Cheese (P99). It was delicious and juicy indeed! Taste like our all-time fave Space cheese burger. Aha! Another addition to our fave in Boyd’s!

Then for Garlic Bread lovers they have Garlic Loaf Bread at P65. The last time we were there it was at P60.

Coffee For Peace (Davao): Cifra ala Mode (right, their winning concoction in 2007)

Location of Coffee For Peace is at the Frederick Building, McArthur Highway, Matina, Davao City which is just a walking distance from NCCC and acrosss the street diagonal from McDonalds-MTS, so off we went there trying to decide if we wanna try their Civet Coffee.

The first thing you see outside during that time we went there was this sign board outside its entrance.

We went in thinking there was a meeting and indeed they were having a special meeting. Shortly after we went in, Ging Navarro Descallar or Ate Ging, the Franchising Operations Manager, who was very accommodating and soft-spoken approached us. She sat down with us in our table and talked to us about their coffee shop. Coffee For Peace supplies world class Arabica beans and Philippine Civet Coffee coming from the Cordilleras and in Mindanao from Mount Matutum in Cotabato.

As Ate Ging explained to us, Arabica coffee has only about 3% caffeine therefore if you drink it you would less likely to have palpitations especially when you are a coffee addict or a coffee drinker. They are into coffee trading and as how Ate Ging put it, Coffee for Peace is a venue where they invite people to talk about their cause – to bring and promote PEACE in Mindanao especially between the rebels and government soldiers inviting them to put down their guns and have a peaceful talk over a cup of coffee so that is why it is Coffee For Peace.

We ordered Cifra ala Mode at P140 (top right) under their Iced Coffee For Peace which is their barrista’s winning cold espresso concoction in a competition held last 2007 which has a tangy taste because of the bits of lemon you would find in it. I ordered their Cafe Caramel Mocha Hot Latte P120 (top left) under their Hot Coffee For Peace and it tasted good. I also tried their Monster Chocolate Cake which is only P35 per slice and has a delicious filling in between.

Looking around their place, I cannot help but notice this cool and nice design on their ceiling which was designed by the husband of Ate Ging who is an artist and professional photographer. Another Nikonian like us actually. When our baby saw this he said “toto” (lizard).

The signage at the bottom of the photo above will be placed outside one of these days according to Ate Ging. She also told us that the three (3) triangles you will see in the letter O in coffee stand for the three groups in Mindanao who should be at peace with one another – the Bangsamoro, migrants and GRP. Paradise served the food we ordered about an hour after. But then the food was good and kind of worth the wait as we were so hungry by the time it was served. We came from a shoot with our teacher Eugene Lara at the David’s Edge. It was a totally wholesome shoot. H and I were kind of late for the 5AM shoot schedule since he came from work while I got a hard time looking for taxi to bring me there. It was a Monday – a school and work day plus the first day of the week so it was busy on the streets already by the time I got out of the house. H had to fetch me somewhere in Matina.

Going back to our food trip, we had another classmate with us, Lance from Norway, He ordered a Mango Shake which he said was delicious!

He also ordered for breakfast this Ensaladang Talong (Eggplant Salad) served with diced tomatoes and white onions. I was not able to taste it. But if it would have been Tortang Talong (Eggplant Omelet or Eggplant Fritters or Fritata as they would call it) I would have tried it.

Jess ordered Seafood Platter which is also good served with mayo.

And Jess had this Humba (Braised Pork Belly with Sugar) as he liked pork dipped in oil.

H ordered his favorite Sizzling Sisig – minced meat served on a sizzling platter with chili, onion and seasoned with calamansi and vinegar.

I had Shanghai rice rather than plain rice as I was craving for bilbao. Hahaha yes it is one of my cravings recently though I had to stop eating much of it as it may be not healthy too much preservatives and so-so. This was good though it was not that hot, kind of cold and quite too oily.

For drinks, it took me awhile to decide what shake I want so I told the waiter to just come back. I then remembered what Kris Aquino served in Boy n Kris just a few days ago I think to the PBB teen when they guested. She made a shake which has banana, peanut butter, coffee (if I’m not mistaken), milk, and crushed ice and it looked delicious. So I ordered their Choco Banana Peanut Shake came close to it so why not try it! Something different. Well I easily tasted the banana and chocolate. Well it was good though I hoped they served more in a bigger glass as I wanted more but then it has to stay cold otherwise it would not taste that good anymore!

H had this Melon Pearl Shake which he liked. He always like Melon so most of what he orders anywhere is melon. I tasted it and it was good.

The three kids had, I assumed, their regular favorite of Cheeseburger served with french fries.

They had Coke in can for drinks. Jess niece said the burger was rather small probably she got used to American hamburgers that are served in huge size. I remembered Jess saying one time before that his niece said the same thing with the McDonald’s burgers here in the Philippines. There so much food we could not consume all. I remembered I ordered Mongolian Spare Ribs but was served late so we forgot to have a photo of it as we were then enjoying the food served ahead. Hmmmm maybe next time when we get the chance to go there again for breakfast.
